AT LAST – A NEW CENTRE FOR CARNOUSTIE

AT LAST – A NEW CENTRE FOR CARNOUSTIE

Carnoustie Centre Action Group has put an ambitious proposal to Angus Council for a Centre to be developed on part of the former Kinloch Primary site

We believe that a new centre would:

  • Help the town become a more attractive place to visit which would also support local businesses
  • Link the East and West sides of Carnoustie and help break down physical and social barriers as the population continues to grow
  • Provide a showcase for local talent and history
  • Create new opportunities for residents and visitors to meet, relax and develop their knowledge and skills in a cultural setting

THIS IS THE LAST OPPORTUNITY WE WILL HAVE TO PROVIDE CARNOUSTIE WITH A CENTRE! – THERE IS NO MORE LAND OR POTENTIAL BROWNFIELD SITES AVAILABLE IN OR NEAR THE TOWN CENTRE

Angus Council has given over the site to CCAG for the exclusive development of a Centre for the Town. Now the work begins to drive the project forward.

We need enthusiastic members to help us take this exciting development to the next stage.

Why not come along to our next committee meeting and get involved.

  1. As a resident who lives close by the building site, Can anyone please explain to me what the Center will be and who it will cater for?
    many thanks Edd.

    • Hello Edd, the centre will be designed to cater for members of the community of all ages. The idea is to provide a new focal point for Carnoustie and the building will incorporate features including a flexible auditorium / cinema space, cafeteria, community rooms, recording / rehersal studio, access offices and outdoor public space. The actual layout and function is still a matter of public consultation. There is to be a presentation by our chosen preferred architect on March 23rd at 7.30pm in the Royal British Legion – please come along if you can.

  2. Quote “….the building will incorporate features including a flexible auditorium / cinema space, cafeteria, community rooms, recording / rehersal studio, access offices and outdoor public space.” Has all this already been decided?
Are you aware of the online poll at http://ourcarnoustie.ideascale.com/a/panelLogout.do ?
“The actual … function is still a matter of public consultation.” What do you mean by “function”, please?
I’m thinking of attending the meeting but would like to know where the decision making process has reached and how much difference the community’s input can still make.

    • CCAG was formed in 2005 with the aim of providing a new ‘centre’ for the community. We have since conducted various community surveys and held miscellaneous public meetings to ascertain what facilities the people of Carnoustie would like to see incorporated in a new building. The features listed are what residents have asked for. The project is at the ‘design brief’ stage and it’s still possible to add or alter aspects of the design if there is sufficient public demand. If you are thinking about coming along on Wednesday – please do, and you can find out exactly where we are with the project.
